I have over 30 of experience teaching English and I have been teaching online for the last 4 years. I have worked in the UAE, Kuwait, and South Korea. I have a Master Degree from the University of Birmingham (UK) in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). I teach at a university in its ESL Education Master’s Program. My specialty is student-centered learning. Currently, I am teaching graduate level classes related to activity development and teaching methodology.
My teaching experience covers all age groups and specialties. I have tutored young children and adults. These days, many of my clients are executives from major companies such as LG, Samsung and KT&G. I am very familiar with the semi-conductor, IT, insurance and biotech industries of Korea. Also, I was an IELTS evaluator while living in the UAE so I can provide assistance with that. My approach to teaching is to allow the students as many opportunities to speak as possible. My role is to facilitate conversation and provide correction and guidance when needed. I also believe a big aspect of learning a language is understanding culture. In my class, having an authentic conversation is my biggest priority. It is my pleasure to customize your language learning experience in order to meet your specific needs and goals.
저는 30년 이상의 영어 교육 경력을 가지고 있고, 지난 4년간 온라인으로 영어를 가르쳐 왔습니다. 아랍에미리트, 쿠웨이트, 한국에서 근무한 경험이 있습니다. 영국 버밍엄 대학교에서 TESOL(제2언어로서의 영어 교육) 석사 학위를 취득했으며, 현재 대학교의 ESL 교육 석사 과정에서 강의하고 있습니다. 저의 전문 분야는 학생 중심의 레슨입니다. 현재 활동 개발 및 교수법 관련 대학원 수업을 담당하고 있습니다.

One of the biggest advantages of learning British English is that about 70% of the world use it. What that means is that when Korean companies have business dealings across Europe, the Commonwealth, and parts of Asia and Africa, knowing the spelling, and grammar standards of British English makes doing business that much easier. I know from experiences with other clients, one of their biggest frustrations is the lack of familiarity with the British accent.
영국식 영어를 배우는 가장 큰 장점 중 하나는 전 세계 인구의 약 70%가 영국식 영어를 사용한다는 점입니다. 즉, 한국 기업이 유럽, 영연방, 아시아 및 아프리카 일부 지역에서 사업을 할 때 영국식 영어의 철자와 문법 기준을 알고 있으면 비즈니스가 훨씬 수월해진다는 뜻입니다. 다른 고객들과의 경험을 통해 알 수 있듯이, 그들이 가장 어려워하는 부분 중 하나는 영국식 발음에 익숙하지 않다는 점입니다.
South Korea is now my home. I met my wife here and I raised my 2 children in Daejeon. I have had the opportunity to experience so many things. One of my fondest memories was when my family was on the Korean TV program 인간극장. It was our family’s tradition to spend the weekends at my father-in-law’s farm helping with his garden and his rice fields. The reason we were chosen for the show was because of my close relationship with my father-in-law. It was a unique experience to be followed around by a camera crew for a month. One advantage was that I really improved my Korean over that time!
이제 한국은 제 고향입니다. 이곳에서 아내를 만났고 대전에서 두 아이를 키웠습니다. 한국에서 정말 많은 경험을 할 수 있었는데요. 그중 가장 소중한 추억은 가족과 함께 '인간극장'에 출연했던 때입니다. 저희 가족은 주말마다 장인어른 댁 농장에 가서 밭일과 논일을 돕는 것이 전통이었는데, 장인어른과 제가 아주 친했기 때문에 출연하게 되었습니다. 한 달 동안 카메라팀이 저희 집을 따라다니며 생활하는 것은 정말 특별한 경험이었습니다. 덕분에 한국어 실력이 많이 늘었죠!
