In my opinion, one of the primary merits of British English is its historical prestige and global recognition. British English is often associated with clear articulation and elegance. Compared to American English, which tends to be more direct, phonetically varied, and heavily influenced by fast-paced colloquialisms, British English frequently emphasizes crisp consonant sounds and distinct vowel enunciation. This can make it more structured and highly effective for formal, academic, or business settings.

A fond memory of mine was having the opportunity to do the graduation performance at the university I was attending. When I was in college, I spent one semester studying “away” at a sister university in the state of Alaska. It was a very unique place to study, and I learned a lot about the local culture and life in the freezing mountains! While I was there, I wanted to challenge myself. I have always had difficulty singing, so I joined an acapella troupe where we sang live songs without instruments. As our final appearance as the group called “Alaskapella,” we performed at the undergraduate graduation ceremony. I felt so proud and excited to be doing something I had been so scared of before: singing in front of people! It was a very rewarding experience, and I learned that day that it’s important to keep learning and trying new things!
제게 소중한 추억 중 하나는 대학 졸업식에서 공연할 기회를 얻었던 것입니다. 대학 시절, 저는 알래스카에 있는 자매 대학에서 한 학기 동안 "타지" 생활을 했습니다. 그곳은 매우 독특한 곳이었고, 얼어붙은 산악 지역의 문화와 삶에 대해 많은 것을 배울 수 있었습니다! 그곳에 있는 동안 저는 스스로에게 도전하고 싶었습니다. 저는 항상 노래 부르는 데 어려움을 느꼈기 때문에 악기 없이 라이브로 노래하는 아카펠라 팀에 가입했습니다. "알래스카펠라"라는 이름의 이 팀으로 마지막 공연은 학부 졸업식이었습니다. 사람들 앞에서 노래하는 것, 전에는 너무나 두려워했던 일을 해냈다는 사실에 정말 자랑스럽고 설렜습니다! 매우 보람 있는 경험이었고, 그날 끊임없이 배우고 새로운 것에 도전하는 것이 중요하다는 것을 깨달았습니다.
