Hello, my name is Mallory, and I have over 15 years of experience working with multilingual learners, including 12 years as a full-time ESL teacher. I have taught students of all ages and proficiency levels in Japan, the United States, and South Korea, from preschool children to retired professionals. Most of my experience has been with elementary-aged learners in both public and private school settings, helping students develop strong English skills while building confidence in the classroom.
My teaching approach is centered on creating a positive, engaging learning environment where students feel motivated to participate and grow. I believe that education is not one-size-fits-all, and I strive to make lessons interactive, student-focused, and enjoyable so that learning becomes something students look forward to each day. I am patient, energetic, and approachable, and I was honored to receive the 2018 SMOE Native English Teacher of the Year Award.

British English exposes learners to a wide range of accents and pronunciation patterns, helping them develop stronger listening skills and greater confidence communicating with English speakers from around the world. Familiarity with British English can also support understanding of other international varieties of English, including those spoken in countries such as Australia, Ireland, South Africa, and India.
While American English remains highly influential in business, media, and popular culture, English is increasingly a global language with many regional variations. Exposure to both British and American English gives students a broader understanding of the language, strengthens their listening comprehension, and better prepares them for communication in an international environment.
영국식 영어는 학습자에게 다양한 억양과 발음 패턴을 접하게 하여 듣기 능력을 향상시키고 전 세계 영어 사용자와 소통하는 데 더 큰 자신감을 갖도록 도와줍니다. 영국식 영어에 익숙해지면 호주, 아일랜드, 남아프리카 공화국, 인도 등에서 사용되는 영어를 포함한 다른 국제적인 영어를 이해하는 데에도 도움이 됩니다.
미국식 영어가 비즈니스, 미디어, 대중문화에서 여전히 큰 영향력을 행사하고 있지만, 영어는 점점 더 다양한 지역적 다양성을 가진 세계 공용어가 되고 있습니다. 영국식 영어와 미국식 영어를 모두 접하면 학생들은 언어에 대한 더 폭넓은 이해를 얻고 듣기 이해력을 강화하며 국제적인 환경에서 소통할 준비를 더 잘 갖추게 됩니다.
One of my fondest memories as a teacher was receiving the 2018 SMOE Native English Teacher of the Year Award. During that time, I worked with a student who progressed from learning basic phonics to confidently holding full conversations in English. Although she was often shy around others, she would regularly visit me during breaks to practice speaking. Seeing her growth in both confidence and language ability was incredibly rewarding, and it reminded me that teaching is not only about helping students learn English, but also about creating a safe and supportive environment where they can thrive.
교사로서 가장 소중한 추억 중 하나는 2018년 SMOE 원어민 영어 교사상을 수상한 것입니다. 당시 저는 기초 파닉스 학습에서 시작하여 영어로 자신감 있는 대화를 나눌 수 있을 정도로 성장한 학생을 가르쳤습니다. 그 학생은 다른 사람들 앞에서 수줍어하는 모습을 자주 보였지만, 쉬는 시간에 저를 찾아와 말하기 연습을 하곤 했습니다. 그 학생의 자신감과 언어 능력이 향상되는 모습을 지켜보는 것은 정말 보람 있는 일이었고, 가르치는 일은 단순히 학생들이 영어를 배우도록 돕는 것뿐만 아니라 학생들이 성장할 수 있는 안전하고 협조적인 환경을 만들어주는 것이라는 사실을 다시금 깨닫게 해주었습니다.
