I have experience teaching business English, conversation classes, and general English. My teaching style is to adapt the lessons to the specific needs of the student. There are several advantages to studying British English. Firstly, the accent is often clearer and easier to understand, which can be a big advantage when travelling. Secondly, standard British English has long carried a perception of prestige in many international contexts. This may be very beneficial when applying for work or interacting in formal environments.
영국식 영어를 공부하는 데에는 여러 가지 장점이 있습니다. 첫째, 영국식 발음은 비교적 또렷하고 이해하기 쉬워 여행할 때 큰 도움이 됩니다. 둘째, 표준 영국 영어는 오랫동안 국제적인 환경에서 품격 있고 신뢰감 있는 영어로 인식됩니다. 이러한 점은 취업을 준비할 때나 공식적인 상황에서 의사소통을 할 때 매우 유리하게 작용할 수 있습니다.
I remember the day that I passed my PhD exam very fondly. In the UK, a PhD exam, or ‘viva’, is an oral test. Mine took about 1 hour. Afterwards, I went for a lovely celebration with my wife and my supervisors. After which, we met my mum and brother, who took me for dinner at a nice restaurant. They were all so happy for me, which meant the world to me.
개인적으로 박사학위 시험에 합격했던 날은 지금도 아주 소중하게 기억됩니다. 영국에서 박사 시험은 ‘비바(viva)’라고 불리는 구술 시험으로 진행되는데, 제 시험은 약 한 시간 정도 걸렸습니다. 시험이 끝난 후에는 아내와 지도 교수님들과 함께 기분 좋은 축하 자리를 가졌고, 그다음에는 어머니와 형(또는 남동생)을 만나 함께 근사한 레스토랑에서 저녁을 먹었습니다. 모두가 진심으로 기뻐해 주는 모습이 정말 감동적이었고, 그 순간은 제게 큰 의미로 남아 있습니다.
