Hello, My name is Stephanie!
I’m an American English teacher, and I’ve spent the past five years teaching in South Korea with both children and adults. I’m a U.S.-licensed teacher with a Master’s degree in TESOL(In progress), and I’m also a certified ACTFL OPIc Rater, so I specialize in helping students improve their speaking and communication skills. One thing I truly believe is that confidence comes first. When students feel comfortable expressing themselves, real improvement happens naturally. In my classes, we focus on communicating ideas clearly first, and then we fine-tune accuracy and fluency over time. Whether you’re preparing for a test, trying to speak more confidently, or using English at work, I shape each lesson around your personal goals.
Before teaching, I worked in business and finance, so I especially enjoy helping students build practical English they can actually use in real workplace and international situations. I’m patient, supportive and professional, and I work hard to create a space where students feel relaxed, respected, and encouraged to try new things. As an American teacher, I think learning both British and American English gives students a real advantage. While the U.S. plays a big role in global business and media, most people around the world use English as a lingua franca- to communicate with people from different countries. In those situations, British English is often the standard, especially in education, testing (like IELTS), and international communication. British English is widely used across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia, so understanding it helps learners feel more confident and prepared when communicating internationally. Being familiar with both varieties also makes it easier to understand different accents, follow global media, and adapt to different English-speaking environments.
미국인 교사로서 저는 영국식 영어와 미국식 영어를 모두 배우는 것이 학습자에게 큰 강점이 된다고 생각합니다. 미국은 글로벌 비즈니스와 미디어에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있지만, 전 세계 대부분의 사람들은 영어를 다양한 국적의 사람들과 소통하기 위한 공용어(lingua franca)로 사용하고 있습니다. 이런 국제적인 상황에서는 영국식 영어가 표준으로 사용되는 경우가 많으며, 특히 교육, 시험(예: IELTS), 국제 커뮤니케이션 분야에서 그렇습니다.
영국식 영어는 유럽, 아프리카, 중동, 아시아 일부 지역에서 널리 사용되고 있기 때문에, 이를 이해하면 국제적인 환경에서 영어로 소통할 때 자신감과 준비도를 크게 높일 수 있습니다. 또한 두 가지 영어 유형에 모두 익숙해지면 다양한 억양을 이해하기 쉬워지고, 글로벌 미디어를 더 잘 따라갈 수 있으며, 서로 다른 영어 사용 환경에도 유연하게 적응할 수 있게 됩니다.
One of my most meaningful experiences was my first international trip outside of the United States, when I traveled to Belize with a close friend. Beyond the country’s natural beauty-its caves, waterfalls, forests, and beaches-the most memorable part was meeting people from all over the world in our hostel. We spoke with travelers from Colombia, New Zealand, Germany, and many other countries, all using English to connect and share. That experience helped me realize how powerful language is in bringing people together. It sparked my passion for international communication and for helping others gain the confidence to take part in the global community. Today, this same passion guides my teaching, as I work with both children and adults to open doors through English and communicate with the wider world.
제 인생에서 가장 의미 있었던 경험 중 하나는 미국을 처음으로 떠나 떠났던 첫 해외여행, 친한 친구와 함께한 벨리즈 여행이었습니다. 동굴, 폭포, 숲, 해변 등 벨리즈의 아름다운 자연도 인상 깊었지만, 가장 기억에 남는 순간은 호스텔에서 전 세계 다양한 나라에서 온 사람들을 만났던 경험이었습니다. 콜롬비아, 뉴질랜드, 독일 등 여러 나라에서 온 여행자들과 영어라는 공통 언어로 소통하며 이야기를 나눌 수 있었고, 그 경험을 통해 언어가 사람과 사람을 얼마나 강력하게 연결해 주는지를 깊이 느끼게 되었습니다.
이 경험은 국제적인 소통에 대한 제 열정을 키워주었고, 다른 사람들도 글로벌 커뮤니티의 일원으로 자신 있게 참여할 수 있도록 돕고 싶다는 마음을 갖게 한 계기가 되었습니다. 그리고 오늘날 이 같은 열정은 제 수업의 중심이 되어, 어린이와 성인 학습자 모두가 영어를 통해 더 넓은 세상과 소통할 수 있도록 돕는 데 이어지고 있습니다.
