I’ve been teaching ESL at Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Business levels for 10 years, both online and in the classroom.
Getting to know my students means being able to tailor lessons so they get the absolute most from them. By working together and having fun, we’ll ensure you develop excellent reading, writing and speaking skills! It’s important to remember that lessons don’t have to be stressful to get results. In fact, a relaxed, creative environment is always the best way to achieve your goals. There are undoubtably merits for both British and American English. However, I feel British English is the best for international learners due to its tradition and formality. American English is often simpler – for instance its use of more phonetic spelling – whereas British English is more subtle and nuanced.
Ultimately, though, it’s important to note that English as a whole is constantly changing, reflecting the times we live in and the unique personality of whoever is speaking or writing it. This is what makes it so personal and fascinating.
영국 영어와 미국 영어 모두 분명한 장점이 있습니다. 그러나 저는 전통성과 격식이라는 측면에서 볼 때, 국제 학습자들에게는 영국 영어가 더 적합하다고 생각합니다. 미국 영어는 종종 더 단순한 편인데, 예를 들어 보다 발음에 가까운 철자법을 사용하는 경우가 많습니다. 반면 영국 영어는 더 섬세하고 미묘한 차이를 지니고 있습니다.
궁극적으로 중요한 점은, 영어라는 언어 자체가 끊임없이 변화하고 있다는 사실입니다. 영어는 우리가 살아가는 시대와, 그것을 말하거나 글로 쓰는 사람 각각의 고유한 개성과 성향을 반영합니다. 바로 이러한 점이 영어를 매우 개인적이면서도 매력적인 언어로 만드는 것 같습니다.
A few years ago, I taught English in a language school in Madrid. I’ve always loved European culture and have travelled there extensively. Living in Spain, however, was a truly wonderful experience. The colleagues I worked with have become life-long friends and I revisit frequently. My spoken Spanish isn’t as good as it should be, but I keep trying and am improving all the time. I feel a deep connection with the Spanish people, the food, the incredible landscape and amazing architecture. A friendly and welcoming country, I look forward to returning each year.
