I have heard from non-native English speakers that they prefer the British accent as it sounds clearer to them. Of course, there is not ‘better’ accent, but research says that the British accent is just more pleasing (on average), than the American one. Not only that, the research indicates that this accent conveys more authority. You can be liked and respected more just for speaking with a British accent!
비원어민 영어 사용자들로부터 영국식 억양이 더 명확하게 들린다는 말을 많이 접했습니다. 물론 ‘더 좋은’ 억양이라는 것은 없지만, 연구에 따르면 영국식 억양이 평균적으로 미국식 억양보다 더 듣기 좋다는 결과를 접했습니다. 또한, 영국 억양은 더 권위 있는 느낌을 준다고 합니다. 즉, 영국식 억양으로 말하기만 해도 더 호감 있고 존경받는 인상을 줄 수 있습니다.
Once, I went hiking up Jiri mountain, in Korea, with a group of friends. We stayed in a pension the night before, and we couldn’t sleep. We just played card games. Well, I did get 1 hour of sleep, but there wasn’t a chance to sleep in. We got on a mini bus at 6 in the morning to bring us to the national park. We were tired but our spirits were high. It took 12 grueling hours, but all six of us stayed together, and provided enthusiasm and entertainment for each other.
한 번은 한국에서 친구 몇 명과 함께 지리산을 등반하러 갔습니다. 전날 밤에는 펜션에서 묵었는데, 잠을 거의 못 잤습니다. 그냥 카드 게임만 했죠. 저는 그나마 한 시간 정도 잠들었지만, 더 잘 수 있는 상황은 아니었습니다. 아침 6시에 미니버스를 타고 국립공원으로 향했습니다. 모두 피곤했지만 분위기는 좋았습니다. 12시간에 걸친 고된 등반이었지만, 저희 여섯 명은 끝까지 함께하며 서로에게 힘과 즐거움을 전했던 기억이 납니다.
